FOTD + tutorial: Bright cat eye

I still haven't had the time to write the mascara reviews... Hmm... I suck, haha! But they will be up! Eventually! :)
A makeup look with a tutorial will have to do for now :)

Another look using Detrivore cosmetics!

I'm really liking the shadows so I actually recorded a video for this look but, accidentally, I didn't record the most important part and so I'm not going to upload it. Fail ;)
Also, I still haven't done the review on Detrivore... More fail ;)
I'm a bit stressed at the time but I'm doing my best to keep up with the blogging :)

I know the placement of the green might be too weird/too much for some, but I actually quite like the effect :)

MAC Update thoughts

So, as I promised yesterday, here is a little update on the MAC Update ;)

For those of you who don't know, MAC Update is something that all the MAC Retail artists go to every three months. We're told about new collections and get to try out the new products!
We also talk about current and upcoming makeup trends which I plan include more about in different posts on each trend!

I was lucky enough to go to Update with Stine from ShowYouMakeup who is just amazingly sweet and who I always have a lot of fun with! Good times :)

Keep reading to see my thoughts on each collection!

MAC Update day

I just got home from MAC Update!

What a crazy day!
Right now I'm going straight to bed, but I'll make a post about the Update tomorrow!
I also have mascara reviews coming up as well as a review on the new Mineralize SPF15 foundation!

05:20 am - I get out of bed
05:55 am - I leave the house. My dad drove me to the station.
06:10 am - I arrive at the station in time to get some breakfast before getting on the train
06:30 am - The train leaves from Århus
09:30 am - The train arrives at Copenhagen
09:40 am - I have to take another train to Vallensbæk where the Updateis held
10:10 am - I arrive at Update (40 minutes late because there's no earlier train that we can take!)
06:00 pm - Update is over
06:12 pm - Taking that train back to Copenhagen
06:40 pm - Have 10 minutes to grab some food
06:50 pm - The train leaves from Copenhagen. I was supposed to have Internet all the way home in the train but I didn't, so I ended up reading (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) instead of blogging, which I originally intended.
09:40 pm - The train arribes in Århus
09:40 pm - I have to wait 30 minutes for my bus
10:10 pm - The bus leaves
10:30 pm - I'm home (And I got a package with some MAC PRO things that I had someone CP me! Yayyy :D)

THAT's what I call a long day!

FOTD: A Warm & Cozy look

I was hurrying out the door when I took these pictures so they're not the best.
I had to be at work on time though, right? ;)

Keep readig for more pictures, list of products used and a written tutorial :)

Poll time! Written tutorials?

I don't know if anyone remember, but I used to include a "written tutorial" in most of my FOTDs.
Examples can be found here :)

I stopped writing these "tutorials" because I wasn't sure if anybody was reading them.
However, I would like to start writing them again if anyone cares, so here's a little poll to see what you think.

What do you think about written tutorials?

Love to read them!

Don\'t always read them but think it\'s a good idea

I don\'t care for written tutorials

Detrivore tutorial: BSoD

I absolutely love the color and name of the BSoD eyeshadow from Detrivore, and since I promised you all a tutorial when I posted the swatches of the mattes and hilites, I figured it'd be a great color to use in a tutorial!
I have a review coming up, but I think I'll do a video instead of a written entry here. We'll see :)

POTD: Makeup Forever "10 Black" Glitter

I've only used the MUFE glitter in one FOTD so I felt like I had to share my love for this product in a POTD post :)
I had been looking for black glitter for the longest time, and came across this little baby in Sephora when I was in Canada.
Now, since it is black it isn't as glittery as a colored glitter, but it's amazing for adding cool effects to dark smokey eyes!

Let me know in the comments:
  • Have you tried this?
  • What looks would you do/have you done using black glitter?
  • Are there other MUFE glitters that you'd recommend?

Golden Star look + tutorial

In my haul post from yesterday, I mentioned how amazing GOSH Golden Star effect powder looked on top of MAC Cuddle shadestick, and here is the proof :)

.

Makeup timeline!

I just posted a video on YT with all the makeup looks I have saved on my computer from September '08 - December '09!

Quick Tip: Dried up gel liner?

This post is (unfortunately?) not about how to "save" a dried out gel liner, but about what you can use it for once it starts drying out!

I personally love gel liners! But (there's always a but, isn't there) once they start drying out, which they will eventually, they won't be as easy to use to line with.

However, gel liners work wonderfully as eyeshadow bases, and they still work for that even when they start getting a bit too dry to line with!

So! Don't throw away those half-used and half-dried eyeliners! Try them as bases!

This post is actually about the effect that different colored bases can have on duochrome eyeshadows!
In this look and this look I used MAC Blacktrack f/l as a base for the color on the lid
In this look I used MAC Dipdown f/l as a base on the lid
In this look I used both MAC Non-Conformist f/l and MAC Iris Eyes f/l as bases on the lid
I know I have used gel liners as bases in many other looks, but it seems like I haven't posted them... Hmm :P

I need your help!

I NEED INSPIRATION!

For videos, that is.

I would really like to make videos more often, but right now I just don't feel inspired when I have the time to actually record something.

I do have some ideas, but I'd love to know what you want to see.
(Or if you want to see any at all, ha ha :D )

That's about it for now.
Please, please, please e-mail me at makeup@zoffe.dk if you have any ideas.

Another GOSH haul!

I'm pretty bad.
My excuse?
The department store I work in had an amazing GOSH sale!

We're talking products for only 1/3 of the price!
Why?
Because it was all limited edition and discontinued shades! :D

So, what's the MAC Shadestick doing in the picture?!
Well... You see... It wasn't on sale or anything, but I had to have it to put under one of those GOSH effect powders! I swatched the two together and couldn't resist!
I'll post swatches tomorrow when I have daylight to take pictures in.
I might need to post swatch pictures of all my effect powders soon? ;)

  • GOSH Golden Star effect powder - This is actually my favorite product that I got. You have to see what it looks like on top of the shadestick that I got as well. One word that describes it? WOW! (And not in the Warcraft sense :P )
It's a light, almost white, color with super small gold glitters in it. Reminds me of the MAC Reflects Glitters but a bit less glitter and smoother in application.
I might just have to do a tutorial using this! ;)
  • GOSH Paradise effect powder - A very pale golden color but it has a green undertone to it that makes it quite unique. I wore this today with MAC Copperplate eyeshadow in the crease and the two made up a very interesting but pretty neutral look.
  • GOSH Cyanic effect powder -  This is one bright blue! It does remind me a bit of MAC Electric Eel eyeshadow, but I haven't swatched the two side by side.
  • GOSH Golden Gate effect powder - Very smooth and super shiny gold!
  • GOSH Green Star effect powder - Very nice, dark green. I think it's going to look very pretty on top of a green base but by itself it isn't too special.
  • GOSH Bottle effect powder - Another one I really, really like. It's a green base color with super small silver glitters in it. Not glitters like in Purple Rain effect powder (I hate that color. Absolutely hate. So chunky!) but glitters that apply very nice and smooth.
  • GOSH #16 extreme art eyeliner - Almost like a brick red. Very interesting color that I'm looking forward to using!
  • MAC Cuddle shadestick - As I mentioned above, I fell in love with this when I swatched it underneath Golden Star. It's a very pretty color by itself as well, but I only ever use shadesticks unless regular eyeshadows, so they have to work well for that.

Fade To Pink look + tutorial

I got a request to do a tutorial for this look but I find it quite uninspiring to do the same look more than once so I figured I'd at least use different colors! :)

POTD: MAC Studio Tech foundation

Confused about what POTD is? Read this post :)

If you ever read what foundations I use in my FOTDs, you might have seen that Studio Tech gets used on a pretty regular basis.

Keep reading to find out why I like it so much!

POTD: GOSH Rainbow nailpolish

I've mentioned this polish before, but it's been a while so I think I can do it again now :D

Confused about POTD? Read this post :)

It's such a gorgeous polish! It has a clear base with multi-colored flakes.
The magic doesn't happen when you apply this polish by itself though - it needs to be layered on top of something else to really make it work :)

It works with pretty much any color!

My favorites are on top of a black like China Glace Liquid Leather

or on top of a dark purple like China Glaze Let's Groove

I took pictures on top of a lot more colors, so keep reading if you want to see! ;)

POTD ?

I think just invented a new abbreviation ;D
So, what does POTD mean?
Product of the Day!

What does that mean?
I want to start doing posts featuring random makeup+beauty products, talking about what I like about them and what I use them for :)

So far, I have a couple of POTDs written and ready to post whenever I get pictures taken for them, and it seems like some of them are going to be more like mini-reviews while others are going to focus more on swatches. We'll see how everything works out :)

I do have quite a lot of different makeup brands in my collection but most of what I have is MAC, so the majority of the products featured will probably be MAC. Not because I don't like other brands but because MAC products are what I have most of! ;)

Quite dramatic blue&black FOTD

To make up for the super simple FOTD below, here's something a bit more fun! ;)

Super simple FOTD

I guess this isn't much of a FOTD, since I'm hardly wearing any makeup.
I figured I'd post anyway, since this was all I wore to work the other day and I did take pictures :P

GOSH haul

I guess I'm lucky these days!
Last week I got 50% off on these MAC goodies, and yesterday I was lucky enough to walk by a store that had GOSH products for 50% off!
Actually, all their cosmetics were 50% off, but the only things they had left that I wanted were these GOSH products!

  • Extreme Art Eyeliner #25 - I love the Extreme Art Eyeliners! Very similar to the MAC liquidlast liners with the only difference being that the GOSH ones come in a much better variety of colors! Hear that, MAC?! GOSH makes more colors than you now!
The one I got is a very dark gray. Not the most exciting color but I just realized that I don't own a gray liquid liner!
  • Soft 'n Shine lip balm #39 Sweetheart - For the longest time, I refused to buy the Soft 'n Shine lip balms because I think they're a MAC Slimshine knock-off. However, after seeing all the MAC slimshines being discontinued(What's up with that MAC?!), I thought that I might as well try this and see how it compares. The color I got is a very pretty soft pink.
  • Yellow Sea Horse effect powder - Have I ever mentioned that I love effect powders?! This color is a pale yellow with a green duochrome to it, very similar to MAC Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow.
  • #101 On Stage cool lip jam - The On Stage cool lip jams feel kinda cooling on the lips (which I imagine is why they got their name?) and I think they're my favorite lip product from GOSH. This color is clear but has a blue duochrome to it which makes it very similar to Benefit California Kissin' lipgloss.
  • #105 On Stage cool lip jam - This color is very different from the other ones I own! It's amazingly pigmented and has a very cool looking blue-violet duochrome too it.

Detrivore Cosmetics swatches: Hilite collection

I recently bought the Hilite Collection from Detrivore Cosmetics, and here are the swatches!
The complete collection of 7 colors was only $10! (without shipping)
Individually the jars are $3 each and sample bags are available for $1 each.

The Detrivore Hilite colors (not to be confused with their Highlight colors) all look white in the jars, but have different color duochromes to them! How cool is that?!

I also bought the Matte collection, which I posted swatches of here.
I will have a review up ASAP, and I'll try to do a tutorial as well!

If there are any colors you'd like to see a tutorial on, please let me know :)

Detrivore Cosmetics swatches: Matte collection

I recently bought the Matte Collection from Detrivore Cosmetics, and here are the swatches!
The complete collection of 27 colors was only $30! (without shipping)
Individually the jars are $5 each and sample bags are available for $1 each.
I'm absolutely in love with the range of matte colors and I can't wait to play more with them! :D
I also bought the Hilite collection, which I'm posting swatches of later.
I will have a review up ASAP, and I'll try to do a tutorial as well!

If there are any colors you'd like to see a tutorial on, please let me know :)

Sigma brushes

After seeing one rave review after another about Sigma brushes, I feel the need to get this out.

I have not tried the Sigma brushes and I don't plan to.

Why?

Because I don't want to support a company that simply copies another one - with both the look and name of their products.

Cheap brushes have been available for a long time, and bloggers as well as YT gurus have tried to show you the best cheap alternatives to the expensive high-end brands.
I don't think that there's anything wrong with that. At all!

However, I don't like the fact that Sigma brushes not only have been obviously inspired by the design of MAC brushes, but also have the same numbers!
You crossed a line there, Sigma!

It's like buying a fake Louis Vuitton purse because "it looks just as good as the real thing". Yeah, of course it does! It's A COPY!

If you don't want (or can't afford) to spend that much money on a purse, why not just buy another one?

That's how I feel about brushes as well. No, you don't need to have MAC brushes if you don't want to or can't afford them. As far as I know, there are plenty of cheap alternatives out there.
I have seen good reviews on brushes from both Coastal Scents and Crown Brush.
I haven't tried any of them myself, but I would love to when I get the chance.

Am I alone here, or does anyone feel the same way?

I really don't wish to offend anyone with this post, and if you have any of the Sigma brushes and are happy with them, good for you! :) I just can't bring myself to buy them :/

FOTD

This is just a really quick look that I did before going shopping with my sister :) She needed to return some Christmas presents and I (of course) ended up getting some new makeup which I'll share with you in another post :)

MAC haul!

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have read, that I hauled a little at MAC last week.
I only just had the time to post about it here, but better late than never, right? ;)

My local MAC counter had 50% off on some of the old LE and DC items that they still had and I took advantage of it! ;)

Here's what I got!

  • All Nighter PRO longwear (DC) - I absolutely adore dark lips and I don't know how I didn't get this sooner! I've worn it at the counter a couple of times and it's such a lovely color. I really like the pro longwears, but I rarely buy them because of the price :/
  • Saddle e/s (DC) - A basic medium brow. Not super special and not the best selling product (which I guess is why they're DCing it) but I think it's a nice color to have.
  • Reflects Rust glitter (PRO. LE at counters w/ Makeup Art Cosmetics '09) - I pretty much collect pigments and glitters, so there was no way I could pass on this ;) I've worn it at the counter a few times and I think my favorite way to use it is on top of a black liner.
  • Cocomotion pigment (LE w/ Makeup Art Cosmetics '09) - This has been out before and I always liked the color but just didn't love it enough to pay full price, so now was the time to get it!
  • Mega-Rich pigment (LE a loooooong time ago... w/ Overrich '08) - Another pretty pigment that I've been looking at ever since it came out but only just bought! *happy dance*
  • Skinsheen leg spray in the lightest color (medium dark) (LE) - I'm actually very happy with my pale self, but at the same time I like to change up my look as much as possible :) (with the exception being my hair. I'm just not a hair person, lol) I find the skinsheens to be pretty buildable but at the same time very easy to get to apply even. I also like how they don't transfer onto clothes (haven't tried with white clothing though, and I'm probably not going to take the risk!) but still wash off easily so I can go back to my nearly-corpse-color whenever I want ;)

Happy New Year! + NYE makeup

I hope everyone had a great and safe New Year's Eve!

I don't usually get the whole concept of New Year's eve parties though. It's like everyone thinks that that party is going to be the most amazing one of the year, but it rarely turns out to be like that when you have such high expectations.
Sure, NYE is a great opportunity to dress up in way over-the-top glittery clothes and makeup without anyone thinking it's weird, but I wear makeup and clothes like that a lot on normal days as well, haha :)
I think every Friday and Saturday night have the potential to be just as good a party as NYE could ever be and I wish people would remember that, 'cus that would mean a lot more great parties throughout the year! ;)

That being said, I did have a great time! I spent the night with three of my lovely coworkers from MAC :) We had some great food and a lot of great things to drink, and we had an awesome little party all by ourselves, haha! Even though it wasn't a huge party, it was one of the best New Year's eves I've ever had :)

And with all the rambling aside, here is my NYE makeup!
I was in a hurry when I took these pictures, so they're not the best, but I hope you'll like them anyway :)
